ABINGTON, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team battled to a draw against Penn State Abington on Friday. The Garnet trailed late in the contest until
Shlok Kaul evened the score with a goal in the 67th minute.
Joost Almekinders and Dante Cholmeley-Jones scored on a couple penalty kicks to open the scoring for the Garnet. Following consecutive second-half goals from the Nittany Lions, Kaul answered with the tying score to earn a draw.
Eli Cogan made five saves in a full 90 minutes of action. The Garnet registered 14 shots, while Penn State Abington tallied ten.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Joost Almekinders opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 11th minute. The senior ripped a strike past the keeper to net the team's first goal of the season, putting the Garnet ahead 1-0.
Javier Minuesa Sicilia then put a ball on net in the 29th minute off a free kick. The sophomore lofted a shot towards the crossbar, which was batted away by the leaping keeper.
- Abington evened the score with an equalizer in the 33rd minute. The Nittany Lions played a free kick into traffic, which snuck into the back of the net. Cholmeley-Jones put the Garnet back in front with a penalty kick in the 48th minute. However, Abington edged back in front with goals in the 50th and 56th minutes, respectively.
- Kaul came up clutch for the Garnet with a game-tying score in the 67th minute. The senior captain picked up a loose ball inside the box before elevating the ball past the Nittany Lions keeper. Mason Jelovsek was credited with an assist for his first collegiate point.
