Softball Sweeps Dickinson in Regular Season Finale

SWARTHMORE, PA - The No. 22 Swarthmore College softball team swept past Dickinson College in a rainy regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet won the opener 8-3, while braving slippery conditions in a 10-5 finale.

The Barron twins helped orchestrate the sweep with a pair of outstanding performances. Lane Barron earned the victory in game one, surrendering three runs in a complete game. Rae Barron then took over in game two, batting a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Barron navigated through the first three innings with relative ease. The senior worked around a leadoff single in the first inning before coasting through the second and third frames.

- The Garnet struck first with three runs in the third. After recording two quick outs, Iris Barone kickstarted the rally with a single. Regan Valenzuela then followed with another single before Emilee Espinoza loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch. McClure then came through with a single to right field, while Linnaea Rasmussen brought home two more with a line drive past the shortstop, making it 3-0.

- Barron answered the call in the fourth with a 1-2-3 shutdown inning. The Garnet offense then added two more in the bottom frame on a Barone double and Valenzuela single, building a five-run cushion.

- Dickinson added a pair of runs in the fifth to cut into its deficit. However, Swarthmore would answer back with a crooked number in the sixth. Espinosa doubled home a pair of runs before Rasmussen capped off the scoring with an RBI single.
