Women’s Lacrosse Wins Fifth-Straight, Outlasting McDaniel

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team kept its hot streak going with its fifth-straight victory in a 14-8 win at McDaniel College on Saturday. The Garnet improved to 11-2 overall with a 4-1 conference record.

Three different Swarthmore scorers collected four goals in a well-rounded effort. Annabel Stifler, Claire Long and Kate Fox led the charge, while Carly Rodrigues-Reilly accounted for the other two tallies.

Fox impacted both ends of the field with seven draw controls, two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Gillian Will led the squad with three ground balls, while Brooke Carrier made five saves between the pipes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- McDaniel opened the scoring before surrendering back-to-back goals from Fox and Stifler. The Green Terror countered with an equalizer, until Rodrigues-Reilly found the back of the net to build a 3-2 edge at the first intermission.

- Swarthmore rode momentum early in the second period, opening the stanza with goals from Long and Stifler. McDaniel then found themselves back in the driver's seat with four-unanswered scores to build a one-point lead. Swarthmore ended the half with the lead after rallying for a couple goals in the final minute. Fox scored with 44-seconds left, while Stifler gave her team the lead with three seconds on the clock.

- The Garnet defense shut down the Green Terror in the third period, holding the opposition without a shot on goal. Swarthmore added to its advantage with goals from Fox, Long and Stifler to create a 10-7 lead. The Garnet took advantage of a couple free position opportunities from Fox and Stifler.

- Swarthmore sealed its victory with a big fourth quarter. Long scored twice, while Fox added a tally to account for the first three goals of the period. Following a McDaniel goal, Rodrigues-Reilly added one more final strike to punctuate a Garnet victory.
