Softball Bounces Back to Earn Split at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Swarthmore College softball team split a conference doubleheader at Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Bullets won a pitcher's duel 2-1 in eight innings before the Garnet bounced back with a 14-3 rout in five frames.

Elisabeth O'Connor was 3-for-6 with a double, two triples, five RBI, and two runs scored to lead the Swarthmore offense. Iris Barone was 4-for-8 with a stolen base and an RBI. Linnaea Rasmussen and Ava Babcock both tallied three hits with Babcock also driving in four runs. Lilly Goldberg pitched seven scoreless innings in the opener but had to settle for a no-decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Goldberg and the Gettysburg starter were locked in a pitcher's duel for the majority of the contest. Neither side was able to produce a run through seven innings of action as no baserunner advanced past second.

- In the eighth, Serafina Tinio finally put the Garnet on the board, smacking a double to score Regan Valenzuela who started the inning on second base. In the bottom of the inning, a fly out advanced the ghost runner to third and the run came in on a fielder's choice to tie the score for the Bullets. After a single, Gettysburg had runners on first and second when a dropped fly ball allowed the winning run to score.
