LANCASTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team had its six-game win streak come to an end with a 18-12 loss at No. 12 Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.
Annabel Stifler and Kate Fox led the offense with a five-point performance. Stifler totaled four goals and an assist, including three fourth-quarter scores, while Fox added three goals for her second-straight performance with a hat trick.
Brooke Carrier totaled a season-high 10 saves in a strong performance between the pipes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore battled the nationally-ranked Diplomats in a competitive opening stanza. Franklin & Marshall struck quickly with three-straight goals until the Garnet countered with a powerplay goal from
Aubree Daugherty and an unassisted score from Stifler. The Diplomats would end the period strong with back-to-back scores, taking a 5-2 edge.
- The Diplomats began to run away with the lead, opening the second period with four-straight goals. Carly Rodrigues-Reilly broke up the run with a much-needed score, while Fox countered a Diplomats goal with back-to-back scores. Franklin & Marshall closed the half with an 11-5 lead.
- The Garnet hung with the Diplomats in a tightly-contested third quarter. Franklin & Marshall opened the half with two scores to build an eight-point lead, but Claire Long swiftly answered with a free position score. Fox then added her third goal of the afternoon with a powerplay score to trail the Diplomats 14-7.
- Swarthmore was able to narrow the gap in the fourth quarter, but fell short of the Diplomats. Daugherty traded goals with the home team, before Stifler scored twice and Kela Watts found the back of the net to rally for three-straight goals. Stifler added one more before the final whistle, but the effort fell short for the resilient Garnet.
