Softball Falls Twice to End Florida Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Swarthmore College softball team suffered a pair of shutout losses to end its week at The Spring Games on Friday. The Garnet fell to No. 7 East Texas Baptist University 1-0, and Wesleyan University 6-0.

Lilly Goldberg was excellent again in the pitcher's circle, allowing just one hit against the Tigers, but suffered the tough-luck loss. Linnaea Rasmussen went 3-for-5 on the day at the plate for the Swarthmore offense.

ETBU 1, SWARTHMORE 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both pitchers cruised through the opening two innings, with neither team able to manage a baserunner. Eva Szap recorded the first hit of the game with a lead-off single in the third but the next three Garnet hitters were retired and the contest remained scoreless.

- The Tigers broke through for the lone run of the game in the bottom of the third. A lead-off walk opened the frame and the runner advanced to third on a groundout followed by a passed ball. Another groundout allowed the run to score and ETBU took a 1-0 lead. The Tigers had a chance for more with a two-out triple but Goldberg got a fly out to end the inning.

- Swarthmore put two runners on with two outs in both the fourth and sixth innings but was unable to get on the board. The Garnet then went down in order in the seventh.

- The Garnet tried to rally in the seventh, loading the bases with one out. However, Wesleyan ended the game by forcing a foul out and a fielder's choice.
