Women’s Lacrosse Overpowers St. Josephs (LI) in Home Opener

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team rallied for its second-straight victory, taking down St. Josephs University of Long Island, 20-4, in Saturday's home opener. 

Aubree Daugherty scored a game-high four goals to lead a trio of hat tricks, while Annabel Stifler and Kate Fox both contributed three goals. Kela Watts had the hot hand for the Garnet, assisting four goals and tallying one score for a game-high five points. 

Eleven different players found the back of the net for the Garnet. Paige Samuelson and Claire Long both collected two goals, while Cata Tarantino and Ridgely Smith celebrated their first collegiate goals.

Brooke Carrier allowed two goals and made one save in a winning effort. Elizabeth Walsh and Sadie Steffens also saw time between the pipes, combining for just one goal against in one half of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zoe Crawford opened the scoring just 30-seconds into the contest after burying a pass from Watts for the game's first tally. The senior then added another assist, finding Daugherty, who scored her first of back-to-back goals. The Garnet closed the stanza on a 7-0 swing, receiving a pair of goals from Long and tallies from Watts and Fox. 

- Carrier opened the second with a save to set up another strong quarter for the Garnet. The Golden Eagles finally lit up the scoreboard with 9:45 left in the second, but Daugherty quickly responded with her third goal of the afternoon. Fox scored two more goals in the stanza to complete her hat trick, while Daugherty notched her fourth tally. Isabella Fermo and Stifler also joined the scoring, adding one goal each to give Swarthmore a 13-2 halftime edge. 

- The Garnet continued to pile on in the third quarter, opening the second half with four-straight goals. Stifler quickly wrapped up a hat trick with two-straight to score the previous three for Swarthmore. Samuelson then connected on consecutive tallies to give the Garnet a commanding 15-point lead. The Golden Eagles ended the quarter strong, adding a couple unanswered goals, making it 17-4. 

- Swarthmore closed out the game with a 3-0 advantage in the final stanza. Carly Rodrigues-Reilly opened the scoring, while Tarantino and Smith closed out the game with their first collegiate goals, finishing off a 20-4 win.
