SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team made quick work of visiting Ursinus College, 3-0, in a Centennial Conference match on Tuesday night.
The Garnet hit .302 as a team while holding the Bears to just a .062 attack percentage.
Ella Tsai led Swarthmore with 15 kills and compiled a .464 hitting percentage.
Isabel Adam tallied nine kills and 13 digs.
Mailey Wang and
Keira Miles were busy at the net, recording five and four blocks respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet got out to a 4-0 lead in the opening set with Tsai registering a pair of kills. Swarthmore held a 9-4 advantage before Ursinus rallied for five straight points to tie it up at nine. Adam and
Aiste Bardauskaite responded with back-to-back kills to kickstart a 12-5 Garnet run. Swarthmore was up 22-15 when the Bears strung together five points again to get within two (22-20). However, a kill by Bardauskaite and two from Tsai gave the Garnet the set 25-20.
- The score was level at two early in the second when Swarthmore pulled ahead with five consecutive points.
Nicole Kim notched a pair of aces during the stretch. The Garnet maintained the lead but Ursinus remained within striking distance until it was 15-11. Swarthmore then created separation with nine unanswered points, closing the set with a 10-1 surge to claim a 25-12 win. Adam sparked the rally with four kills.
- The Garnet carried the momentum into the third, jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Wang posted three kills during the sequence. The score was 12-8 when Swarthmore pulled away with a 9-1 run. Wang and Tsai led the charge as Wang tallied two blocks and a kill while Tsai contributed three kills and a block. The Garnet went on to finish the match with a 25-11 triumph.
