Swarthmore Athletics Hosts Annual Team IMPACT Day

SWARTHMORE, PA - The Swarthmore College Department of Athletics hosted Team IMPACT Day on Saturday, Sept. 19, highlighting the organization's impact and celebrating its matches across Garnet athletic programs. The event also reinforced the department's ongoing commitment to Team IMPACT and its mission of fostering meaningful connections through sports.

Coordinated by Team IMPACT Fellows Liesel Blau, Nate Kim, Colin Crowe, Erin Coyle and Jordan Vrees, the Garnet celebrated the organization during both games of Saturday's turf doubleheader. The celebration culminated at halftime, when Team IMPACT matches were introduced at midfield with members of the athletics community.

Eva (women's soccer), Abu (men's soccer) and Lucy (field hockey) were all in attendance for the ceremony and posed for photos with representatives from their respective teams. Eva and Abu also joined their teams on the sidelines for the home soccer matches, while Lucy received additional recognition at Saturday's home field hockey game against Dickinson College.

"The Awareness Games were so special because they brought our Swarthmore Team IMPACT community together and gave our matches the chance to meet and build friendships of their own," said Blau. "Seeing each child honored at halftime and our athletes and broader athletic community rally around the mission of Team IMPACT was incredibly meaningful. I am proud of how this event showcased the growth of Team IMPACT on our campus, and I am excited to help more teams become involved this year, both at Swarthmore and across our conference."

"The Team IMPACT halftime celebration of the matches and their families was one of the highlights of the day," said Kim. "These amazing kids have brought so much fun, joy, and love to our teams, and they deserved to be celebrated in front of the fans and the greater Swarthmore community. The day reminded players, coaches, families, and fans that 'it's more than just a game' - our sport provides us with heartfelt memories and deep relationships that we can carry with us for a lifetime. The event not only honored our Team IMPACT matches, but also helped spread the organization's mission to get all kids in the game."

"Having Abu as our match has been incredible for our team," said Crowe. "The relationships Abu has built with men's soccer grow each time he comes to our games, practices, and other team events. Not only has Abu benefited from being one of our own, but the team has as well. With brotherhood being one of the team's core values, the camaraderie and respect we have for one another has taught us to be more compassionate, understanding, and truly better players on the field when Abu is with us. I am grateful and blessed to have Abu, and I know my teammates feel the exact same way."
