Men’s Basketball Stumbles at Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD  - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team came up short against Salisbury University in a 66-48 defeat to open the new year on Saturday evening. 

Eddie Paquette paced the squad with 18 points and four rebounds, while Cal Hanson contributed seven points. The Garnet shot 30.6 percent from the field as a team. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seagulls raced out to a quick start, opening the game with seven-straight points. Paquette slowed down the home team with a much-needed Swarthmore bucket, but Salisbury maintained separation with a 17-2 start. 

- Paquette got the Garnet back on track with a layup at the 7:20 mark. Hanson then buried a three-pointer to pull Swarthmore within single digits, 20-11. 

- Zander Jimenez and Brady Kageyama added back-to-back layups, while Paquette hit from long range to rattle off seven-unanswered points. Swarthmore shrunk its deficit to six points, before the Seagulls added a final bucket before intermission, 32-24.

- Devin Burger earned a pair to score the opening bucket of the second half, bringing the Garnet within six points. However, the Seagulls countered with consecutive threes to double their lead, 38-26. 

- Salisbury increased its lead to 18 points with 8:52 on the clock. The Garnet refused to back down, scoring six-straight points with three-pointers from Burger and Nyle Coleman. Moments later, Kageyama hit another triple to bring his squad's deficit to 10 points with 6:29 left. 

- Paquette shrunk the team's deficit to single digits with a layup at the 5:56 mark. However, the Seagulls rattled off 11-straight points to regain their grip on the game, 65-44.
