COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team suffered a road defeat at the hands of Ursinus College, 78-51, on Wednesday night.
Catherine Chadwell put together another incredible performance, scoring a game-high 24 points with five steals while shooting 8-of-15 from the field. The rookie continues to build on an outstanding first-year campaign, logging her 10th straight performance with double-digit points. She finished just one point short of her season-high, which was achieved exactly a week ago against Bryn Mawr.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears jumped out to a 13-2 run to start the opening quarter. Chadwell kept the Garnet in the game, scoring all 12 of her team's points. Ursinus exited the quarter with a 27-12 lead after Chadwell closed the stanza with a step-back jumper.
- Ursinus continued to pull away in the second quarter, holding a 13-3 advantage. Carly Murphy tallied the lone Swarthmore field goal, while Vianna Kanyamiheto-Watson added a free throw. The Bears went into the locker room with a 40-15 edge.
- Early in the third, Chadwell added a three-pointer and a jumper to tally the first five Swarthmore points. Chadwell, Kanyamiheto-Watson and Lily Czub all connected from long range to close the quarter, but the Bears won the stanza with a 26-20 advantage.
- Swarthmore finished the game strong with a 16-12 edge in the final stanza. The Garnet closed the game on a 11-4 swing in the final four minutes, narrowing the gap against the red-hot Bears.
