Volleyball Rolls Past Ursinus In Centennial Opener

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team began Centennial Conference play with a 3-0 sweep at Ursinus College on Tuesday night.
 
The Garnet put forth an impressive effort, hitting .487 for the match and limiting the Bears to just a .083 attack percentage. Swarthmore committed just six attack errors over the three sets. The Garnet have now won 22 straight matches against Ursinus.
 
Aiste Bardauskaite led the way with a career-high 13 kills. The first-year made just two errors and finished with a stellar .524 hitting percentage. Isabel Adam and Keira Miles chipped in nine and seven kills respectively. Zindzhi Montgomery recorded five kills on six attempts for an .833 success rate and added a block. Maya Sheridan and Madeline Mountcastle tallied 16 and 15 assists respectively with Sheridan also posting a team-high 10 digs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams were tied at six in the opening set when Swarthmore took over with a massive 16-5 run. Bardauskaite had three kills during the stretch and Adam registered two. The Bears followed with four of the next five but the Garnet then closed out the set on back-to-back kills by Adam and Bardauskaite for a 25-15 win.
 
- Swarthmore had its best set of the night in the second, swinging at a .684 clip and holding Ursinus to a -.105 attack percentage. The Garnet tallied the first six points of the stanza, all on the serve of Mountcastle. The score was 11-4 when Swarthmore pulled away further with nine unanswered points on Nicole Kim's serve. Bardauskaite led the surge with four kills. Montgomery later put the set away with a kill to give the Garnet a 25-9 victory.
 
- Swarthmore continued its momentum to start the third set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. Five different players produced kills for the Garnet. The Bears came within four (8-4) before Swarthmore created separation with a 10-2 rally. Six players notched a kill led by Adam with two. The Garnet cruised the rest of the way and ended the match with a 25-13 decision.
