Women’s Soccer Earns Third-Straight Shutout in Scoreless Draw

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's soccer team settled for a scoreless draw against Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday evening. The Garnet have opened the season with three-straight shutouts for the first time since 2016, when they strung together a remarkable eight-consecutive clean sheets.

Swarthmore dictated the pace of play with a 33-5 shot advantage and 13 shots on goal. Rutgers-Camden was only able to muster one attempt on goal, which was saved by Lila Travers in the 60th minute.

Dahlia Bedward held the Scarlet Raptors scoreless for the opening 45-minutes, while Travers finished the shutout with a clean second half. Eloise Franz, Aminah Evans and Lauren Roche played a full 90 minutes in another stellar defensive effort.

Ava Gizzie tied for the team lead with nine shots in their 2025 debut after returning from injury. Celia Kanellakos also logged nine attempts to pace the Garnet attack.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sydney Ross had the best scoring opportunity of the first half. The sophomore fired a strike just under the crossbar in the 34th minute, but had her shot deflected away by Camden's leaping keeper.

- The Garnet controlled the opening half with 60-percent total possession, playing over 60-percent of the game in the Swarthmore attacking zone. Swarthmore held its opponent to just one shot compared to 13 from its offense.

- Bedward saw limited adversity in the opening half, but made an excellent heads up play to prevent a potential scoring opportunity in the 31st minute. The senior keeper beat a Scarlet Raptors' attacker to a pass just outside the box as she fielded her position well to avoid a one-on-one threat.

- The Garnet threatened with the opening six shots of the second half. However, Rutgers-Camden then tested Travers with a flurry of shots, firing three attempts in a one minute span. Travers denied the lone shot on goal, while the other two attempts were either blocked or sailed high.

- Swarthmore kept the Scarlet Raptors offense in check for the remainder of the game. The Garnet tallied the final 14 shots with seven of them reaching goal. Rutgers' keeper handled all seven attempts to blank a persistent Garnet attack.
