Taylor Walks Off in Centennial Tournament Opener Against Muhlenberg

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team rallied for a 6-5 victory over Muhlenberg College in its Centennial Tournament opener on Thursday, using a four-run seventh inning to secure the win. Grace Taylor played the role of hero, delivering a walk-off sacrifice fly to right field to bring home the winning run.

Trailing by three runs, the Garnet sent seven batters to the plate in the seventh inning. Emily Bertrand singled up the middle to score the first run, and Lia Fong followed with an infield hit that plated another. Swarthmore tied the game on its third walk of the inning, before Taylor's sacrifice fly completed the comeback.

Olivia McClammy had a standout performance, reaching base four times with three walks and a double. Jordan Jackson and Iris Barone each scored twice, with Barone setting a new program record for single-season runs.

The victory also marked a historic milestone for the Garnet, as the team secured its program-record 30th win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lilly Goldberg cruised through the first inning, retiring the side in order. The first year then overcame a couple hits in the second to toss another scoreless frame.

- Swarthmore opened the scoring with a pair in the third inning. Jackson singled home the game's first run, while McClammy followed with an RBI double to deep left field.

- McClammy made an excellent play in the fourth inning, snagging a bunt in the air and making a quick toss to first to double up the runner. Goldberg walked two in the frame, but escaped the inning unscathed.

- Muhlenberg took the lead with four unearned runs in the fifth inning. After an error extended the inning, the Mules piled on with consecutive doubles to take the lead, 4-2.

- The Mules built a three-run lead with an insurance run in the seventh, but the Garnet responded in the bottom half with a four-run rally to overtake the visitors. Barone was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, followed by walks from Jackson and McClammy to load the bases. Bertrand and Fong then each delivered an RBI single to keep the momentum going. Emilee Espinoza walked to bring in the tying run, setting the stage for Taylor, who lifted a fly ball to right field to drive in the game-winning run.
