SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team concluded the regular season with a doubleheader split against McDaniel College on Sunday. The Green Terror won the opener, 21-17 in 11 innings, and the Garnet came back to take the nightcap, 13-10 in six frames. The second contest ended early due to darkness.
There was no shortage of offense at Clothier Baseball Field as the two squads combined for 61 runs and 69 hits over the two contests. The teams also left runs on the table, leaving a total of 47 men on base.
Brad Johnston wrapped up a stellar week at the plate by going 5-for-9 with two home runs, four RBI, six runs, one walk, and two stolen bases.
Max Beadling went 4-for-8 with a homer, seven RBI, five runs, one walk, and three stolen bases.
Matthew Silvestre reached base eight times with four hits and four walks.
Andrew Firko drove in four runs while
Zac Kahn tallied four hits and three RBI.
MCDANIEL 21, SWARTHMORE 17 (11 INN.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McDaniel started the game with back-to-back jacks and added a run on a bases-loaded walk for an early 3-0 lead. Swarthmore responded with four in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by
Aidan Sullivan, a bases-loaded walk, and two sacrifice flies.
- The Green Terror regained the upper hand with a two-run second but the see-saw continued in the third when the Garnet scored three times. McDaniel answered back with three in the fourth to take an 8-7 edge. Swarthmore evened the score in the bottom of the frame with a sac fly.
- The Green Terror went back in front with an RBI single in the fifth before the Garnet took over again with two in the sixth inning. Both teams scored twice in the seventh and Swarthmore had a 12-11 advantage that it took into the ninth.
- In a wild ninth inning, McDaniel crushed a grand slam with two outs to take a 15-12 lead. Resiliently, the Garnet scored three times in the bottom of the inning to tie the score and send the game into extras. Johnston led off with a home run and Beadling later smashed a game-tying, two-run shot to left center.
- Neither team scored in the 10
th before the Green Terror rallied for six runs in the 11
th inning.
Benjamin Buchman led off Swarthmore's half with a long ball and the Garnet added another run but came up short.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore struck first in the second, pushing across two runs on a sacrifice fly and a single. McDaniel launched a three-run homer in the third to take a 3-2 lead. However, it was short-lived as the Garnet evened it up in the bottom of the inning on Johnston's second long ball of the day.
- The Green Terror went back in front in the fourth on a two-out, two-run double. The visitors added an RBI single in the fifth to make the score 6-3. Swarthmore then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 11-6. The Garnet sent 14 hitters to the plate in the frame and recorded seven hits. Swarthmore also benefitted from two walks and two hit by pitches, one of which forced in the go-ahead run.
- McDaniel tried its best to rally in the sixth but came up just one short after scoring four runs in the inning. The Garnet posted their final two runs in the bottom of the frame before the teams ran out of daylight.
