WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College track & field teams had a handful of athletes compete at West Chester University's Purple and Gold Open on Friday and Saturday.
Lee Bickford led the group by winning the shot put for their first career victory. They were one of nine top-eight performances by the Garnet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bickford was victorious in the shot put with a personal record of 39' 5.25" (12.02m), surpassing their previous best by more than a foot. They registered the mark on their first attempt. Bickford also posted a personal best in the discus, finishing fifth (113' 8", 34.65m), and they placed sixth (119' 4", 36.37m) in the hammer.

Tate Garcia produced a trio of top-five finishes. The junior came in second (122' 8", 37.39m) in the discus, took third in the hammer with a career-best 131' 2" (40.00m), and was fifth (37' 10", 11.53m) in the shot put.

Lydia Morris-Kliment finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 114' 3" (34.84m).
Jordyn Bernard recorded a pair of personal records, placing seventh (37' 1", 11.30m) in the shot put and ninth (97' 8", 29.77m) in the discus.

Kevin Medina was the lone men's athlete to compete and he posted a personal best in the discus to take 13
th place (101' 4", 30.89m).
