HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore wasted no time at the start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jackson and McClure produced back-to-back singles with one out then both scored on McClammy's double. After a single by Bertrand put runners on the corners, McClammy scurried home on a delayed double steal to give the Garnet a three-run advantage.
- The three-run first was all Barron needed, as she was dominant in the pitching circle. The junior tossed six scoreless innings, four of which were perfect. Barron allowed just one hit, a lead-off single in the third, and only one Falcon reached second base.
-
Iris Barone singled in a run in the fourth to up the margin to four. In the sixth, Jackson drove in a run with a base hit and later scored on an error to give Swarthmore a six-run cushion. Barron gave way to Bertrand in the seventh, who pitched a 1-2-3 inning to secure the shutout. Bertrand was also a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the contest.
