SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College men's basketball team dropped a Centennial Conference contest to Franklin and Marshall College on Saturday, 80-48, at Tarble Pavilion, snapping its three-game win streak.
The Diplomats came out strong with 21 of the first 26 points and rolled the rest of the way. F&M's aggressive defense proved to be a problem for the Garnet and the Diplomats also displayed crisp passing in producing points at the offensive end.
Eddie Paquette was the leading scorer for Swarthmore with 13 points and
Zander Jimenez followed with 12.
Devin Burger contributed nine points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- F&M opened the contest with a pair of layups. Paquette then hit a three and Jimenez drained a jumper to put the Garnet ahead 5-4. F&M shot 6-for-10 from the field with a pair of threes while forcing six Swarthmore turnovers during the sequence. The Diplomats continued to dominate play and took a 50-24 lead into halftime. The visitors shot an impressive 58.6% during the period.
- F&M thwarted any thought of a Garnet comeback with a 15-5 stretch to open the second half. The Diplomats held their largest lead (65-29) at the end of the sequence and the margin remained 30-plus for the rest of the game.
