Men’s Basketball Rains Down Threes in Dominant Home Opener

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team rode a hot three-point shooting performance to a 99-74 victory over Neumann University in the team's home opener on Wednesday. The Garnet hit 22-of-44 from long range to tally their highest three-point total in the past 20 years.

The Garnet spread around the scoring in a dominant team win. Eddie Paquette, Brady Kageyama, Cal Hanson and Nyle Coleman all enjoyed double figures to headline 13 different Swarthmore scorers.

Paquette paced the team for the second-straight contest, totaling a game-high 15 points. Kageyama also had a well-rounded performance with 14 points and a career-best nine assists. Kageyama was 4-of-4 from three-point territory, while Paquette and Hanson both shot 3-of-4. Swarthmore had 11 different players hit from long range.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hanson opened the floodgates with the team's first three-pointer at the 15:39 mark. The senior then drilled another triple on the following possession off an assist from Kageyama, who did an outstanding job distributing the rock. Moments later, Ryan Chu connected from deep to put the Garnet ahead by five points, 13-8.

- After Neumann pulled within a bucket, Chu responded with another long ball to give his squad some breathing room. Isaiah Luckie, who played key minutes for the Garnet, added on with a three-pointer, while Kageyama piled on with another trey. Paquette would take the Swarthmore lead to double-digits, 26-16, with a layup at the 10:32 mark.

- The Garnet allowed the Knights very little breathing room as they attempted to claw back within single digits before intermission. Matthew Maloney and Coleman added back-to-back layups to put Swarthmore up by 14 points. Quaye Agoyo then notched the team's ninth and final three-pointer of the opening half to put the Garnet ahead by 15 points with 2:16 left.

- Swarthmore carried its momentum into the second half, opening the stanza with 10-unanswered points. Hanson and Paquette contributed buckets to kickstart the rally, while Paquette and Kageyama added on three-balls for good measure, 58-35.

- With 14:50 left, Kageyama drained a three to give the Garnet a 28-point edge. The Knights would answer with a three of their own, until Paquette squashed any chance at momentum with a back-breaking three, 70-42.

- Coleman helped pile on for the Garnet, knocking down a three-ball and then sinking a pair of free throws on a later possession. Swarthmore would expand its lead to 35-points with a Kageyama three at the 9:54 mark.

- Swarthmore's bench had the opportunity to showcase its talent and depth with late minutes to close out the game. Jack Guevara had a pair of late threes, while Dominic Greaves got involved with a deep ball of his own.
