No. 16 Women’s Swimming Rolls Competition in Centennial Quad Sweep

LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 16 Swarthmore College women's swimming team picked up where it left off, orchestrating a Centennial Conference sweep in the season-opening Centennial Quad on Saturday. The Garnet defeated Ursinus College (201-59), Franklin & Marshall College (213-48) and Dickinson College (200-60) to open the season with a trio of conference wins. 

The women's swimming program captured its 42nd straight head-to-head victory and its 41st in a row against conference opponents. The Garnet have not suffered a loss at the Centennial Quad in their past five seasons participating at the opening meet. 

Quinn Weygandt was a three-time winner with a trio of individual victories to pace the Garnet. Maya Ambardekar, Norah Rutkowski, Genine Collins also contributed with a pair of individual wins to go along with their relay success. Ava Craig and Elle Anthony picked up the other two victories for Swarthmore as they captured 11 individual wins as a team.


HOW IT HAPPENED
- The women claimed the top-two positions in the 200 medley relay to kick off the meet. A stacked relay of Ambardekar, Anthony, Rutkowski and Collins grabbed the top finish with a time of 1:46.61. Swarthmore's B relay followed four-seconds behind at 1:50.34. 

- Weygandt captured her first of three victories with a win in the 200 freestyle. The Garnet standout opened her senior campaign with a time of 1:56.59 in the event. Craig followed closely behind at 1:57.78 to secure a runner-up result. 

- Ambardekar and Marin Norlander occupied the top-two finishes in the 100 backstroke. Ambardekar touched at 59.36, while Norlander followed closely at 59.56. The duo later went back-to-back again in the 200 backstroke, finishing at 2:09.63 and 2:10.69, respectively. 

- Rutkowski was victorious in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:09.05. Annabelle Hoover also placed inside the top-three with a 1:10.06 finish. 

- Weygandt tallied her second win with a top result in the 200 butterfly. The senior placed at 2:09.05, while Kate Hallmark followed in second place at 2:14.41.

- Anthony finished at the front of the pack in the 50 freestyle. The senior standout touched at 24.29, edging out the newcomer Riley Bacinski, who followed at 24.88. 

- The Garnet swept the podium in the 100 freestyle. Collins led a fast Swarthmore trio with a 51.61 effort, while Anthony and Bacinski followed at 52.95 and 54.08, respectively. 

- Rutkowski won her second event with a 2:30.60 finish in the 200 breaststroke. Hoover moved up a position from the 100 breaststroke, grabbing second at 2:33.63. 

- Craig added to the list of Swarthmore victories, placing first in the 500 freestyle. The junior secured the top spot with a 5:15.01 effort, while Hallmark grabbed third at 5:19.34. 

- Collins' speed was on full display, posting her second victory in the 100 butterfly. The junior swam a 58.11, while Margaret Sawa followed at 59.18. 

- Weygandt capped off her afternoon with a victory in the 200 IM. The senior blew away her competition with a 2:10.71 finish, besting the nearest challenger by four seconds. 

- The Garnet flexed its muscles to close the afternoon, claiming the top-three finishes in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Collins, Ainsley Jane Tambling, Bacinski and Anthony led the charge with a 1:36.37 finish.
