LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 20 Swarthmore College men's swimming team kicked off its 2025-26 campaign with a sweep in the season-opening Centennial Quad on Saturday. The Garnet defeated Ursinus College (205-54), Franklin & Marshall College (180-79) and Dickinson College (179-80) to open the season with a 3-0 conference mark. 

Five different swimmers picked up individual wins for the Garnet men. Danny Castle, Mateo Smith, Cami Wilson, Dylan Herink and rookie JaimeTaylor all enjoyed top swims for the men. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet kicked off the season on a positive note, claiming first overall in the 200 medley relay. The team of Levi Tipton, Dylan Ling, Wilson and Castle touched first in the event with a time of 1:34.22.

- Taylor shined in his first collegiate race, claiming the top finish in the 1000 freestyle relay. The rookie wasted no time introducing himself to the conference, racing to a 10:18.33 finish to beat the nearest challenger by six-seconds. 

- Castle and Tipton finished one-and-two in the 200 freestyle. The junior grabbed the top finish with a 1:45.36 finish, while Tipton trailed at 1:49.26. 

- Matthew Kim and Nolan Weygandt placed second and third in the 100 backstroke. Kim swam a 53.72, while Weygandt posted a 54.64. Later in the meet, Kim earned another runner-up in the 200 backstroke at 1:58.50, while Matvey Ivanov followed at 2:02.18.

- The Garnet duo of Jayden Wang and Herink put together a two-and-three finish in the 100 breaststroke with times of 59.80 and 59.85, respectively. Later in the meet, the duo repeated their finishes in the 200 breaststroke with Wang finishing at 2:13.20 and Herink a 2:14.64. 

- The Garnet occupied the top-three spots in the 200 butterfly. Swarthmore continued their dominance in the event with Mateo Smith grabbing the top finish at 1:59.22. Sam Peterson and Tim Fan rounded out the trio with times of 1:59.65 and 1:59.76, respectively. All three swimmers were within five-tenths of a second of each other with the closest non-Swarthmore challenger trailing the leader by four seconds. 

- Wilson finished as the runner-up in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall at 21.29. Castle then raced to a runner-up finish in the 100 freestyle, clocking a time of 47.43. Jack Boerner was third overall in the event at 48.68. 

- Peterson and Taylor were second and third in the 500 freestyle. Peterson placed second at 4:56.07, while Taylor swam a 4:59.46.

- Wilson returned to his winning ways with the top finish in the 100 butterfly. The senior paced a Garnet duo with a finish of 50.96, while Ling grabbed second at 52.36. 

- Herink won the 200 IM with a 1:58.72 finish. Weygandt also contributed with a third-place finish at 2:01.95, earning his second top-three result of the meet. 

- The Garnet placed second in the 200 freestyle relay to end the afternoon. The team of Castle, Wilson, Boerner and Tipton clocked a time of 1:26.03.
