Volleyball Serves Up Win Over Gettysburg. 3-1

SWARTHMORE, PA. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team remained perfect in the Centennial Conference with a 3-1 victory over Gettysburg College on Saturday. The Garnet improved to 3-0 in the Centennial as they took down one of the four unbeaten teams in the conference.

Exceptional serving played a crucial role in Swarthmore's success, holding a 15-4 edge in aces. Isabel Adam tallied four aces to lead the team, while four different players recorded two. In total, eight different players registered a service ace for Swarthmore. 

Keira Miles had another efficient afternoon on offense, registering 14 kills with a .308 hitting percentage. Adam also added 13 kills with 14 digs in a well-rounded performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Swarthmore went on the set's first run with a 5-1 swing to build an 8-5 advantage. Alexia Enache and Aiste Bardauskaite tallied consecutive kills, while Madeline Mountcastle added on an ace. Both teams exchanged blows until the Garnet rallied for a 7-1 run to create an eight-point lead, 19-12. Late in the set, the Bullets provided some resistance, pulling within three points, but Swarthmore sealed victory with three-straight points, 25-19.

- After surrendering three points to open the second set, the Garnet put themselves in front following consecutive Nicole Kim aces to propel a 5-1 swing. Moments later, the Garnet built momentum with five-straight points to build a four-point cushion, 15-11. Swarthmore appeared in control until the Bullets put together a late 6-1 run to take a two-point lead, 22-20. On the brink of dropping the set, the Garnet dug deep for consecutive points to tie the set at 24-24. Swarthmore persevered with three-straight points, which featured a pair of Miles kill  to take the set, 27-25. 

- Despite a promising start to the third stanza, the Bullets erased an 8-3 Garnet lead with a 12-3 rally to flip momentum. Swarthmore remained within striking distance for the remainder of the set, but were unable to string together a rally to threaten Gettysburg's lead, 25-20.

- Lois Matsukawa energized the Garnet with an outstanding sequence of serves as she tallied consecutive aces to orchestrate a 6-0 run, putting her team ahead 14-8. Swarthmore never looked back, rallying for an 8-1 stretch to put the Bullets away with an insurmountable 12-point advantage, 22-10. The Garnet swiftly took care of business, ending the Bullets' afternoon with a 25-14 victory.
