SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The No. 13 Swarthmore College women's swimming team earned a marquee 170-92 victory versus No. 10 Johns Hopkins University on Senior Day at Ware Pool.
It was the Garnet's first victory against the Blue Jays, a perennial national contender, since 1996. The triumph also marked Swarthmore's 36
th consecutive dual-meet win.
The Garnet had five individuals earn two victories apiece, including
Sophie Rotival,
Annaliese Chen,
Quinn Weygandt,
Ava Craig, and
Genine Collins. Swarthmore also took first in the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays. The Garnet set two pool records and recorded three NCAA B-cut times en route to the victory.
Prior to the meet, the Garnet recognized seniors Chen,
Ursula Horn,
Georgi Mathews,
Sophie Rodner,
Lauren Rohde, Rotival,
Erin Szuromi, and
Mackenzie Tucker.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore swept the top four spots in the 200 butterfly, led by Chen who swam a NCAA B cut 2:03.90 for first place. Weygandt (2:05.14),
Mirabel Fernald (2:07.60), and Rohde (2:08.52) rounded out the top four. Fernald's time was a personal best and ranks seventh in program history.
- Chen also won the 100 butterfly in a Ware Pool-record time of 56.39. Her performance is sixth-best in program history. Weygandt touched the wall first in both the 200 (2:05.86) and 400 (4:21.75) individual medley. The junior's time in the 400 IM set a new Ware Pool record and was also a NCAA B cut. Chen finished second (2:08.28) behind Weygandt in the 200 IM.
- Rotival posted a NCAA B-cut time of 1:03.34 to win the 100 breaststroke. She also claimed victory in the 200 breast (2:21.05).
Ava Craig registered a pair of top-five swims in program history, winning both the 200 (1:52.81) and 500 (5:03.69) freestyles. Her mark in the 200 free ranks second and her 500 free time is fourth-best.
- Collins swept the 50 and 100 freestyles with winning times of 23.62 and 51.76 respectively. The sophomore also placed second (56.98) in the 100 butterfly. The 200 freestyle relay of Collins, Rotival, Szuromi, and
Elle Anthony recorded the fifth-best time in program history, winning the event in 1:35.18.
- Swarthmore was victorious in the 200 medley relay as the team of
Maya Ambardekar, Rotival,
Norah Rutkowski, and Anthony clocked in at 1:45.37. Anthony had a pair of individual runner-up performances, taking second in both the 50 (23.79) and 100 (51.82) freestyles. Rohde finished second (4:33.88) in the 400 IM while Szuromi was the runner-up (57.38) in the 100 backstroke.

Kate Hallmark swam the 200 backstroke in 2:05.19, which was good for third place. The performance is third all-time in program history.
Cara Dominici placed third (1:06.30) in the 100 breaststroke. Dominici and Rutkowski took third (2:09.46) and fourth (2:09.54) respectively in the 200 IM, completing a top-four Garnet sweep in the event behind Weygandt and Chen.
