Men’s Basketball Drops Tight Matchup at Dickinson

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team opened its Centennial Conference schedule with a 64-62 loss at Dickinson College on Saturday. The Garnet took a two-point advantage into intermission, but were outscored by four points in the final half.

Zander Jimenez put together a monster performance in his Centennial Conference debut. The first-year scored a career-high 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Cal Hanson joined the underclassman in double figures with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.

Dickinson overtook the Garnet with a hot shooting performance in the second half. The Red Devils shot 45.7 percent for the game, and 56-percent in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams remained neck-and-neck in the opening half with neither team holding a lead larger than five points. The Red Devils started the game with the opening three points, before Hanson countered with a game-tying triple. Eddie Paquette then put the Garnet in front with a jumper at the 17:25 mark.

- Later in the opening half, Dickinson built its lead to five points with 6:20 remaining. Brady Kageyama sparked five-unanswered points with a three-pointer, while Nyle Coleman followed with a game-tying bucket. Devin Burger then closed the half with a triple to give the Garnet a two-point edge.

- Dickinson opened the second half with a three-pointer to regain the lead until Jimenez quickly put Swarthmore back ahead with a jumper, 27-26. Both teams exchanged leads five times in the opening three minutes of the second half.

- Midway through the half, the Red Devils began to pull away with a 7-0 run. Swarthmore then cut its deficit to three points after Jimenez capped off a 7-2 run with a three-pointer, 47-44.

- The Garnet pulled within a point after consecutive buckets from Jimenez and Kageyama with 4:15 left. However, Dickinson built themselves a seven-point cushion with six-unanswered points.

- Jimenez put an end to Dickinson's run with a much-needed bucket, before Paquette knocked down a pair of free throws to make it a one possession game, 55-52, with 1:32 left.

- Dickinson went on a 5-2 run after both teams traded trips to the foul line. Hanson kept his squad in the game with a three-pointer to cut Swarthmore's deficit to three points with 32 seconds left. However, the Red Devils made the most of their free throw opportunities as they held off the surging Garnet.
