Volleyball Sweeps Conference Opener Against Dickinson, 3-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College volleyball team opened its Centennial Conference slate with a 3-0 victory over Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon.

Fresh off her Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week selection, Melissa Eyer stuffed the stat sheet once again with a team-high 15 digs and four service aces. Hannah Humphreys and Zindzhi Montgomery also contributed with a pair of blocks to add to a stellar defensive effort. 

Alexia Enache and Isabel Adam helped pace the offense with nine kills, respectively. Emily Sun added a game-high 23 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Garnet jumped out to an early lead with a 13-9 advantage to start the match. Eyer was crucial to the team's success with several masterful digs to take points away from the Red Devils. Swarthmore then carried momentum out of a Dickinson timeout with eight-unanswered points to wrap up the first set. Three of Swarthmore's final four points were off Eyer service aces, 25-15. 

- Swarthmore forced another early Dickinson timeout after jumping out to a 6-2 lead in set two. Eyer and Emily Sun both added service aces during the run, while Keira Miles energized her teammates with a monstrous kill. The Red Devils battled back to tie the game at 8-8 until Swarthmore rallied off four-straight points to regain its lead. Swarthmore took a timeout late in the set after their deficit was shrunk to two points, 19-17. However, the Garnet held on to clinch the set with three-straight points, which included a final kill from Adam, 25-21.

- The Garnet set themselves up for a three-set sweep with an early 11-5 lead in the third set. Adam recorded consecutive kills, while Humphreys forced a Red Devils' timeout with another kill. Following the timeout, the Garnet continued to apply pressure with an 8-4 swing to take a commanding 19-9 lead. Humphreys went on to secure a Garnet victory with a match-sealing kill, 25-17.
