Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten Behind Two Marcelli Goals

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team took care of business at home with a 2-0 victory over Kean University on Wednesday. The Garnet were receiving votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches national rankings and remain unbeaten after five games.

The Garnet never looked back after Adrien Marcelli paced the Garnet with a pair of first-half scores to give his team an early two-goal cushion. The junior connected on a cross with Len Yamabe in the 11th minute, before adding another tally on a penalty kick in the 37th minute. Marcelli leads the Garnet with three goals on the season, while Yamabe is tied with Marcelli for the team lead in points with six.

Christian Bignotti posted his second-straight shutout as he matched a season-high three saves for the fourth time this season. The Garnet offense dominated play with a 23-10 shot advantage with an 8-3 advantage in corners.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet dominated possession in the opening 10 minutes with the first seven shot attempts of the game. Marcelli eventually put Swarthmore ahead in the 11th minute with the game's opening tally. Yamabe played a perfectly placed cross to a cutting Marcelli, who tipped the ball past the keeper at the opposite post.

- Swarthmore nearly added on with two shot attempts in the 16th minute. Marcelli had the first look blocked by a Cougar defender, while Tejas Sarna's strike was stopped by the keeper off the ensuing rebound.

- The Garnet wreaked havoc inside the box as they continued to make life difficult for the opposing keeper. Yamabe earned a penalty kick for the Garnet after he was taken down in the box on a shot attempt. Marcelli then found the back of the net on the penalty kick to put Swarthmore ahead by two scores.

- Bignotti was tested only once in the opening half as he rose to the occasion with a save in the 44th minute. The senior captain made a sliding save to defuse a potential scoring chance and preserve the team's two-goal advantage heading into halftime.

- Swarthmore and Kean exchanged shots on goal in the 52nd minute. Nate Kim had his attempt saved by the keeper, while Bignotti recorded his second save at the other end.

- JohnPaul D'Andrea nearly connected on his first collegiate score in the 78th minute. The first-year broke free towards the goal and tried to lift a strike high over the keeper, but was turned away by a leaping deflection.
