Swarthmore Athletics Adds Three Full-Time Assistant Coaches

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation is excited to announce the addition of three  full-time assistant coaches to the Garnet staff. The department has added nine full-time assistant coaching positions over the past three years.

Lauren Lucci was elevated to full-time associate head coach for cross country and track & field, while Aimee MacFarland was promoted to full-time assistant field hockey coach. The Garnet have also hired Coulter Morrill as a full-time assistant men's and women's swimming coach.

Lucci has earned the reputation as one of the top throws coaches in the nation after joining the Garnet in 2014. In a decade at Swarthmore, Lucci has coached Swat Throws to one NCAA Individual National Championship, six All-American selections, five Centennial Championship Most Outstanding Performances and 25 Centennial Conference Champions.

In 2023, Lucci was recognized with her second-career USTFCCCA Metro Assistant Coach of the Year selection after guiding Adria Retter to two-straight All-American finishes in the discus and the first Individual National Championship in throws program history. Lucci garnered her first USTFCCCA accolade in 2015, coaching Osazenoruiwa Ebose to the program's first All-American finish in the shot put.

MacFarland enters her third season on the field hockey coaching staff after she helped guide the program to consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2000. Since joining the Garnet in 2022, Swarthmore has combined for a 22-14 overall record with a 12-8 Centennial Conference mark. Last season, the team made its first Centennial Conference Finals appearance in 23 seasons.

The field hockey team approaches the upcoming season after a historic 2023 campaign, where the team held a national ranking for six weeks. The Garnet peaked at No. 18 in the NFHCA rankings and knocked off three nationally-ranked programs on the road to a 13-6 overall record. The team's finish matched the program's best record since earning 14 wins in 2000.

Morrill joins the swimming staff after three successful seasons as an assistant coach at Middlebury College. During his time with the Panthers, the team totaled seven NCAA qualifiers, six All-Americans, 20 NCAA B cuts and eight All-NESCAC honorees. The women's team made numerous CSCAA Top-25 appearances, while improving from sixth to third place in the highly-competitive NESCAC. Morrill also served as the Assistant Natatorium Director for the Panthers.

Last season, the Swarthmore swimming programs further cemented its reputation as one of the top programs in the nation. The men's and women's teams both captured their third-straight Centennial Conference Championship in dominant fashion, while also finishing the season inside the CSCAA Top-25. The women placed ninth at the NCAA Championships to earn its highest placement in program history. The Garnet had six female athletes combine for eight All-American performances during the championships with five of the eight selections earning first-team accolades.
