HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Swarthmore College softball team defeated Haverford College on the road, 8-3, in Centennial Conference action on Tuesday. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended due to darkness with the teams tied at seven after five innings.
 
Avery McClure went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, a walk, two RBI, and a run for the Garnet. Alex Simon and Emily Bertrand each drove in three runs and scored twice. Bertrand also pitched a complete game for the win in game one. She scattered three runs and eight hits over the seven innings.
 
GAME ONE
- The Garnet loaded the bases in the opening frame and two runs came across on a pair of wild pitches to give Swarthmore a 2-0 lead. The Garnet upped the advantage to four with a couple of runs in the second inning. Grace Taylor led off with a walk and stole second. She then went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Iris Barone drew another walk and swiped second as well. Simon then drove in both Taylor and Barone with a single to left.
 
- Bertrand helped her own cause in the fourth with a two-run blast to right to increase the margin to six. Haverford broke through for two runs in the fourth. The Fords put the first three hitters on to load the bases. A sacrifice fly followed by an RBI single cut the Haverford deficit to four (6-2).
 
- Swarthmore got the two runs back in the fifth to regain a six-run advantage. The Garnet filled up the bases again then Simon knocked in another run with a sac fly. Barone came home on a wild pitch to make the score 8-2. The Fords got within five with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. However, Bertrand retired seven of the last eight batters she faced to close out the win.

GAME TWO
- The Garnet struck first when Barone scored on a groundout in the opening frame. The Fords answered in the second with a two-out RBI single to tie the game.
 
- Swarthmore went off for six runs in the third to take a 7-1 advantage. The Garnet sent 12 hitters to the plate and recorded six hits during the inning. Haverford got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the third on a wild pitch and a single.
 
- The Fords put up a four-spot in the fourth to even the score at seven apiece. Haverford smacked four hits and capitalized on an error. Both teams managed one baserunner in the fifth but could not score before they ran out of daylight.
