Swarthmore Bats Slump Against Ursinus

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team dropped the second game of its two-game set versus Ursinus College, 8-1, on Friday night.

Max Beadling accounted for Swarthmore's only two hits with a pair of singles down the left field line. The reigning Centennial Player of the Week was 2-for-4 with the team's only run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ursinus started a two-out rally in the second inning to put three runs across. Liam Alpern retired the first two batters of the inning before allowing the next five to reach base. The junior then bounced back in the third as he struck out the side in a scoreless frame.

- Swarthmore got a run back in the fourth inning on an error by the right fielder. Benjamin Buchman hit a laser directly at the outfielder, who dropped the ball out of his glove. Beadling scored on the play after he reached base with another one-out single down the left field line, 3-1.

- Ursinus busted the game open with four runs in the sixth inning. The Bears benefited from a pair of Swarthmore errors as they plated three-unearned runs in the inning, 7-1.

- The Bears added another tally in the eighth to expand their lead to eight runs. Nitin Rao was brought on with runners on second and third with one out in the ninth inning, but managed to escape the jam cleanly in just two pitches. The first-year got the Bears to bunt through a safety squeeze, while Swarthmore picked off both runners, who were moving on the pitch.
