No. 11 Men’s Lacrosse’s Defense Leads Way in Dominating Victory at Washington

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The No. 11 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten in the Centennial Conference with an 18-7 victory over Washington College. The Garnet recorded their largest margin of victory over the Shoremen in program history.

The Garnet celebrated National Siblings Day in style with the Mabbs and Strauch brothers combining for 10 goals and five assists. Carter Strauch and Von Mabbs led the way with three goals and two assists. Rex Mabbs also added a trio of goals with one assist, while Alex Strauch found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Swarthmore continued its success on faceoffs with Jack McHenry and Matthew Martinez combining for 19-10 on the night. McHenry also led the charge with six ground balls.

Drew Tyson was excellent again with 12 saves and six goals allowed in 54-minutes of action. The sophomore improved his record to 7-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rex Mabbs led off the scoring with the game's first goal at the 13:36 mark. The Garnet then added a couple goals in the final four minutes off the sticks of Clay Almgren and Jackson Brosgol. Tyson was remarkable in the quarter with six total saves as he shut down every Washington scoring chance, 3-0.

- The Garnet added three more unanswered scores as they blanked the Shoremen for the second-straight quarter. Carter Strauch tallied a pair of goals in the stanza, while Rex Mabbs added another score. Washington struggled to generate scoring chances, but had all four of its shots stopped by Tyson, 6-0.

- McHenry netted his first career goal to notch the team's seventh-unanswered score to open the third quarter. The Shoremen finally broke through with their first score of the contest with a man-up goal at the 8:54 mark to end a nearly 40-minute scoring drought. The Garnet quickly took back momentum with three-straight goals from Owen Hoffman, Rex Mabbs and Michael Hardiman. Washington would add three goals late in the quarter, but were met with a pair of Von Mabbs scores and a Nolan Ohrman tally, 13-4. 

- Hoffman put Swarthmore ahead by 10 goals with the opening goal of the fourth quarter. The Shoremen rallied for three goals in the quarter, while Swarthmore expanded their lead with four more scores from Von Mabbs, Alex Strauch, Carter Strauch and Ethan Poyton.
