Men’s Basketball Crushes Haverford to Sweep Season Series

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team blew past Haverford College, 93-49, as it dominated the Fords from start to finish on Wednesday. The Garnet closed out their regular-season home schedule with a 8-4 record and swept the season series against their rivals. 

Swarthmore set the tone early with the opening 12 points of the contest as they carried momentum into a commanding 52-13 halftime lead. The Garnet continued their domination in the second half as their bench added to the team's advantage. Swarthmore shot a remarkable 15-of-31 (48.4%) from deep, while the Fords struggled at 5-of-26 (19.2%) from three.

Cal Hanson contributed a season-best 18 points with four three-pointers to pace the Garnet. Eddie Paquette and Vinny DeAngelo each tallied 11 points, while Caleb Aurelien was the fourth player in double figures with 10 points.

14 different players scored for the Garnet as several bench players impressed with increased minutes. Ryan Chu and Isaiah Luckie both scored their first-career points, while Luckie finished with seven points in six minutes. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore opened the game on a 12-0 run to force an early Haverford timeout. Hanson and DeAngelo each connect from deep during the opening stretch. The Garnet maintained pressure out of the timeout with a pair of DeAngelo triples to take a 17-2 lead with 15:46 left.

- Moments later, Nyle Coleman and Devin Burger kept piling on points with consecutive three-pointers. Michael Caprise then capped off an 11-0 run with another triple to expand the team's lead to 30-4 with 11:41 left.

- Late in the half, Hanson added a couple three-pointers as the Garnet continued to distance themselves from their opponent. Burger then put an exclamation point on a dominating half with one last three-pointer with 32-seconds remaining, 52-13. The Garnet shot 10-of-15 from deep in the stanza. 

- Eddie Paquette carried the team's hot shooting performance into the second half with a three to open the scoring. Moments later, Coleman and Aidan Godfrey headlined an 8-0 run with a pair of threes, 67-19. Following a Caleb Aurelien dunk, Hanson continued to light up the scoreboard with five-straight points on a three-pointer and a layup, 77-24.

- Chu nailed a triple for his first-career point, while Luckie bullied his way into the paint for his first-career score. Later in the half, Jonathan Stump made it a trio of milestones with his first field goal to put Swarthmore ahead by 50, 84-34. Quaye Agoyo then added his first bucket of the season, while Luckie split a pair of free throws to expand his total to seven points.
