Weygandt Breaks Centennial Record, No. 9 Women’s Swimming Takes Down Ursinus

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 9 Swarthmore College women's swimming team remained unbeaten in dual meets with their sixth conference win of the season over Ursinus College, 244-58. The teams swam the first half of the meet on Friday at Ursinus before wrapping up action this afternoon in Ware Pool.

The Garnet have won 37–straight matchups against conference opponents, while capturing their 35th consecutive head-to-head victory.

Quinn Weygandt headlined Friday's action with a Centennial Conference record in the 400 IM. The junior posted the fastest time in the nation with a 4:21.64 effort. Weygandt won all four of her events on the weekend. 

Kate Hallmark also put together an outstanding weekend for the Garnet. The junior won a pair of individual events, was a member of a first-place relay and had a couple top-10, all-time swims. 

FRIDAY
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Weygandt stole the show with an incredible swim in the 400 IM. The junior broke her Centennial record with a time of 4:21.64, which marks the fastest time in Division-III this season. Lauren Rohde (4:35.46) and Annaliese Chen (4:37.71) rounded out the top-three finishes. Both of their times were under the previous Ursinus pool record. 

- Weygandt also competed in the 100 butterfly time trial, placing first overall with a 56.71 mark. The swim was a lifetime best and ranked ninth all-time in program history. 

- The Garnet opened Friday's meet with a pool record in the 200 medley relay. The team of Maya Ambardekar, Sophie Rotival, Norah Rutkowski and Sophie Rodner swam to a 1:47.75 record-setting finish. Swarthmore also grabbed second place with a time of 1:49.54.

- Rotival broke a pool record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.90. She took first in the time trial, while Annabelle Hoover claimed second at 1:07.92. 

- Swarthmore earned the top-two finishes in the 500 freestyle. Hallmark led the field with a time of 5:07.55, while Rohde followed with a 5:08.10 mark. 

- The Garnet closed out yesterday's action with another pool record in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Rutkowski, Ainsley Jane Tambling, Georgi Matthews and Rodner touched at 1:38.75 to beat out Swarthmore's B relay. 



SATURDAY
HOW IT HAPPENED

- Both Swarthmore relays beat out the Bears in the 400 medley relay. The team of Erin Szuromi, Rotival, Genine Collins and Elle Anthony secured the top finish with a time of 3:50.07. The team finished just short of their season-best mark, which ranks 11th in the nation. 

- Ambardekar led the field in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.97, while Mackenzie Tucker grabbed second for the Garnet with a 1:00.08 effort. Ambardekar narrowly missed her season-best mark, which ranks third in program history. 

- Rotival edged out Cara Dominici for a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. The senior touched at 1:05.40, while the sophomore followed at 1:05.57. Dominici posted the fifth-fastest swim in program history. 

- Weygandt had the fastest time in the 200 butterfly with a 2:03.80 mark. Chen (2:05.44) and Rohde (2:05.66) rounded out the top-three with a competitive battle for second place. Hallmark, who placed fourth overall, moved into seventh all-time on the team's leaderboard with a 2:07.74 effort. 

- Collins beat out Anthony in a tightly-contested 50 freestyle. Collins touched at 23.31, while Anthony followed at 23.61. Georgi Mathews grabbed third with a swim of 24.59. 

- Anthony raced to a top finish in the 100 freestyle with a 51.64 mark. Mathews claimed another top-three finish with a time of 53.83 to claim second overall. 

- The Garnet posted the top-three marks in the 200 backstroke. Hallmark beat out a talented field with a time of 2:05.74, while Ambardekar (2:06.45) and Szuromi (2:08.11) placed second and third, respectively. Hallmark posted the fourth-fastest swim in program history, which narrowly bumped Ambardekar's season-best to fifth all-time by a few hundredths of a second. 

- Rutkowski claimed the top spot in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:24.63 mark. Dominici (2:25.13) and Hoover (2:27.60) grabbed second and third, respectively. The first-year climbed up to sixth all-time with her winning mark. 

- Collins picked up another victory with a win in the 100 butterfly. The sophomore raced to a time of 56.64, while Rohde (57.03) and Fernald (59.03) rounded out the top-three. Rohde tied for the 10th fastest mark in program history. 

- Weygandt kept winning with her third victory of the meet. The junior led the way in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.09. She was followed by Chen (2:09.40) and Rutkowski (2:09.66). 

- Swarthmore closed out the meet with the program's seventh-fastest time in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Collins, Hallmark, Dominci and Anthony earned their way on the program's leaderboard with a time of 3:31.21. Swarthmore also grabbed second place in the event. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet (6-0, 6-0) return to Ware Pool in the new year against Johns Hopkins University on January 18.
