Men’s Basketball Suffers Setback at Misericordia

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team saw its four-game win streak come to an end with a 81-69 loss at Misericordia University on Tuesday night. 

Zander Jimenez returned from injury with a season-high 17-point performance in his second collegiate game. The rookie shot 3-for-4 from beyond the arc with a team-high seven rebounds. 

Nyle Coleman, Cal Hanson and Eddie Paquette also scored in double digits for the Garnet. Coleman dropped 13 points with a pair of assists, while Hanson and Paquette added 11 and 10 points, respectively.  

The Cougars led from start to finish with a 41.9 shooting percentage from the field, while Swarthmore lagged behind at 31.8 percent. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Misericordia opened with a 9-2 run in the first two minutes of the game. The Garnet then responded with back-to-back threes from Jimenez to come within a point, 9-8.

- The Cougars added six-unanswered points to bring their lead back to seven with 12:30 left.  Hanson ended the Swarthmore drought with a pair of free throws until Misericordia rallied for five more points to take a 10-point lead. Hanson then knocked down a much-needed triple to bring the team's deficit back to seven points, 22-15. 

- Misericordia maintained its lead heading into halftime. Despite a couple late threes from Devin Burger and Jimenez, the Cougars built their advantage to eight points at the half, 35-27.

- The Cougars opened the second half with a 10-3 run to pull ahead by 16 points. Quaye Agoyo then settled things down with a much-needed three, which sparked a 12-4 Swarthmore run, 50-42.  

- Swarthmore struggled to gain ground on the Cougars as they surrendered a 5-0 run to fall behind by double digits, 55-42. Moments later, Paquette connected from long range to cut his team's deficit to 11 points at the 8:49 mark. 

- Misericordia maintained its double-digit lead over the Garnet. Nyle Coleman brought his squad within 11 points with a three-pointer, but the Garnet were unable to pull any closer. The Cougars took their largest lead of the game with 1:27 left, 81-65.
