SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 24 Swarthmore College field hockey team had its championship hopes come to an end with a 3-0 loss against #15 Bryn Mawr College in the first round of the Centennial Tournament on Tuesday.
The Garnet were shutout by the Owls for the second time this season. Swarthmore held a lopsided 11-5 penalty corner advantage, but were out shot 11-5.
Magdelana Jordan led the Garnet with two shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Owls scored on their first shot of the game in the eighth minute. Bryn Mawr then fired off a pair of shots, but were turned away by
Cassandra Conklin. The Garnet did not record a shot in the opening stanza.
- Bryn Mawr took advantage of a penalty corner in the 23rd minute to give themselves a two-goal advantage. The Garnet created plenty of opportunities with five corners in the quarter, but were only able to generate one shot. Jordan fired off the Garnet's lone shot with four seconds remaining in the stanza, but was denied by the Owls goalie. Both teams attempted one shot in the quarter.
- Swarthmore struggled to create scoring opportunities in the third quarter with zero shots on goal. Bryn Mawr added to their total with another goal after earning consecutive penalty corners. The Garnet were awarded one corner attempt in the quarter.

Emma Duffield fired a shot wide in the 50th minute after Swarthmore earned a corner attempt. Jordan then had another attempt saved in the 51st minute after another Garnet corner. Swarthmore attempted five corners in the final quarter, while the Owls attempted just one.
