Men’s Swimming Drops Fast-Paced Meet to No. 19 TCNJ

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team fell short against No. 19 The College of New Jersey, 126-60, on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams showcased their speed and talent in an exciting non-conference battle between two quality regional opponents. The teams competed in more non-traditional events - including skins races in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke. Skins races, which originated at the ISL level, start with eight competitors and then cut the field in half in a three-round format until the final two competitors swim head-to-head.

Cami Wilson won the 50 butterfly skins race with the top time in all three rounds. The junior beat his challenger by a second in the final round with a time of 22.38. He also went on to earn a top finish in the 100 butterfly.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wilson's speed was on full display in the 50 butterfly skins race. The junior finished with the top time in every round, and got faster as the rounds progressed. Wilson touched at 22.38 in the final round to beat his TCNJ challenger by a full second. Dylan Ling qualified for the semifinals with a top swim of 24.00 to grab fourth overall.

- Wilson won the traditional 100 butterfly with a top time of 50.65. The junior bested his opponent by nearly two seconds to claim the top spot.

- Danny Castle battled to the final round of the 50 backstroke skins race, but settled for a runner-up finish. Castle improved in every round as he touched the wall at 24.47 in his final swim. Castle fought his way into the finals with a narrow victory over a Lions' challenger in the semifinals. Matvey Ivanov took fourth in the semifinals with a time of 25.47.

- Ling swam to the finals of the 50 breaststroke skins race, but placed second overall. The junior finished third in the opening round, but edged out a Lions' competitor by a couple tenths of a second to advance to the head-to-head finale. Ling touched the wall at 27.19 in the final round with his top mark of 27.07 being recorded in the semifinals.

- Cole Griscavage earned a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke. The senior touched the wall at 58.55.
