No. 9 Women’s Swimming Races Past Washington in Home Opener

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 9 Swarthmore College women's swimming team swept every event in a dominating 171-32 victory over Washington College to open its home schedule on Friday night. The Garnet have won 36–straight matchups against conference opponents, while capturing their 34th consecutive head-to-head victory. 

Eight individuals enjoyed victories for the Garnet with Ava Craig leading the pack with a pair of victories. The sophomore was victorious in the 100 and 200 freestyles, while also competing on the first-place 200 freestyle relay.



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet claimed the top-three finishes in the 200 medley relay. The team of Maya Ambardekar, Sophie Rotival, Norah Rutkowski and Collins touched the wall first with a time of 1:46.50. Later in the meet, Swarthmore went on to finish with the top-three marks in the 200 freestyle relay. Collins, Lauren Rohde, Maddie Adams-Miller and Craig claimed the top finish with a 1:39.74 effort. 

- Craig captured her first of two victories in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.29. She then narrowly beat out Quinn Weygandt to win the 100 freestyle at 53.47. The Garnet dominated both events with the top-three finishes. 

- Kate Hallmark won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:45.15. She was followed by Rohde (10:52.79) and Ryleigh Vallejo (11:31.14) as the Garnet earned the top-five finishes in the event. 

- Rotival led a trio of Swarthmore finishers in the 50 freestyle. The senior touched at 24.79, while Erin Szuromi (24.97) and Mirabel Fernald (25.41) took second and third, respectively. 

- Weygandt earned the top spot in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.05. Annaliese Chen followed closely behind with a 2:12.35 effort, while Libby Turner grabbed third at 2:16.04.

- Collins won the 100 butterfly with a 58.26 mark. Fernald touched at 59.23 to beat out a Shorewomen swimmer by two-hundredths of a second. 

- Szuromi finished with a time of 59.02 to win the 100 backstroke. Rhode followed closely behind at 1:00.68.

- Mackenzie Tucker grabbed the top finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:21.37. Fellow senior Ursula Horn took second with a 5:27.94 effort. 

- Annabelle Hoover led the charge in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:08.54 mark. She narrowly edged out Weygandt, who touched at 1:00.63.
