Men’s Swimming Dominates Home Opener Against Washington

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team took down Washington College, 155-49, to open its home schedule on Friday night. 

The Garnet swept every event as eight different swimmers earned top finishes for the squad. Danny Castle led the bunch with a pair of individual victories in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while also placing first as a member of the 200 freestyle relay. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet finished with the top spots in both relays. The team of Lester Wessels, Cole Griscavage, Timothy Fan and Damian Rene touched first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.94. Swarthmore also won the 200 freestyle relay with Castle, Dylan Ling, Mateo Smith and Luke Magnuson finishing at 1:27.36.

- Castle captured his first win of the night in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.99. The sophomore also enjoyed a top finish in the 100 backstroke at 53.16, where he edged out Jacob Sherman by a tenth of a second. 

- Ham Williams-Tracy was victorious in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:06.55. The senior narrowly beat out Theodore Kim, who finished at 10:09.66.

- Benton Greenberg and Luke Magnuson finished one and two in a highly-competitive 50 freestyle. Greenberg touched first at 21.84, while Magnuson was a tenth of a second behind at 21.96.

- Omar Ebied claimed the top spot in the 200 IM with a 2:01.09 effort. Fan followed closely behind the senior with a time of 2:01.26. 

- Ling placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.76, while Sam Peterson grabbed second with a time of 53.56. 

- Griscavage outswam a Shoremen challenger in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.15. He beat out the second-place finisher by a few tenths of a second.

- Smith took home the top finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:56.87. Andrew Hendrickson (5:04.80) and Kim (5:11.11) earned second and third, respectively. 

- Dylan Herink secured a win in the 100 breaststroke at 1:00.44. The sophomore edged out his Washington challenger by a couple tenths of a second. 

UP NEXT
The men will return to the pool tomorrow against The College of New Jersey.
