No. 24 Men’s Swimming Overpowers Dickinson on the Road

CARLISLE, Pa - The No. 24 Swarthmore College men's swimming team overpowered Dickinson College, 142-63, in a dominant road victory. The Garnet improved to 2-1 in the Centennial Conference after a one-point loss to Gettysburg last weekend. 

Danny Castle combined for three victories in three total events. The sophomore won the 50 and 500 freestyles, while contributing to a win in the 400 medley relay. Dylan Herink was also victorious in the 400 IM and 200 breaststroke to win both of his individual events. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore opened the meet with a top finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Lester Wessels, Cole Griscavage, Cami Wilson and Castle finished at 3:30.73 to beat Dickinson by five seconds.

- The Garnet claimed the top-four spots in the 400 IM. Herink touched the wall first with a time of 4:20.05 to lead the pack. He was followed by Ham Williams-Tracy (4:23.43), Omar Ebied (4:29.06) and Dylan Ling (4:29.60). 

- Sam Peterson led the field in the 200 freestyle with a 1:48.85 mark. Luke Magnuson (1:50.27) and Matvey Ivanov (1:50.53) followed closely behind in a tight race for a top-three spot. 

- Castle sprinted to a 21.81 finish to win the 50 freestyle. Benton Greenberg followed in second with a time of 22.21.

- Wilson beat out a pair of Devils in the 100 IM. The sophomore touched the wall at 53.24. 

- Mateo Smith finished with the fastest time in the 200 butterfly. The sophomore posted a 2:00.10 mark, while Peterson followed at 2:02.13. 

- Levi Tipton won his first collegiate race with a top finish in the 100 freestyle. Tipton touched the wall at 48.67, while Griscavage followed at 48.68. The first-year beat out his senior teammate by one-hundredth of a second in a razor-tight finish.  

- Castle won again in the 500 freestyle with a 4:52.63 finish. Theodore Kim followed behind in second with a 5:00.22 effort. 

- Herink closed out the afternoon with a victory in the 200 breaststroke. The sophomore led a trio of Swarthmore swimmers with a time of 2:15.03. Will Trone (2:18.44) and Ebied (2:19.27) finished closely behind to edge out Dickinson. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet (2-1, 2-1) travel to Chicago to take on elite competition at the D3 Shootout on Friday, November 8.
