Men’s Soccer Overpowers Ursinus at Home, 2-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team took care of business with a 2-0 victory over Ursinus College on Saturday night.

Len Yamabe provided the Garnet with all the scoring they needed in the first minute of the game. The sophomore caught the keeper wandering too far outside of the box and placed a perfect ball over his head for the opening score. Henry Lin made a heads-up play to cause a turnover and field the ball to Yamabe for his first collegiate assist.

Later in the game, Anzel Zhen added an insurance tally in the 87th minute for his first collegiate goal. Stathis Kalathias was credited with his first point of the season on the goal, while Joost Almekinders also added an assist.

Christian Bignotti was excellent again in his second-straight shutout. The senior captain made three saves, which included a remarkable leaping stop in the 61st minute. Bignotti recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season and the seventh of his career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yamabe opened the scoring 30-seconds into the match with his ninth goal of the season. The sophomore caught the Ursinus keeper sleeping as he chipped the ball over the goalie from midfield. Lin was credited with an assist on the play for his first collegiate point.

- The Garnet fired off consecutive shots in the 28th minute. Tejas Sarna had his first attempt saved, while Nate Kim was denied after collecting the ensuing rebound. Kim threatened again in the 31st minute, but had his attempt saved once again.

- Almekinders fired back-to-back shots in the 36th minute. The sophomore had his first shot saved, while the second attempt was blocked by the defense. The Garnet outshot the Bears 10-6 in the opening half.

- Bignotti made a couple huge stops to preserve the team's one-goal advantage. The senior made a phenomenal leaping save to deflect an Ursinus rocket from just outside the box in the 61st minute. Bignotti then stood strong and made another tough save off the ensuing corner attempt.

- Zhen checked off his first collegiate goal in the 87th minute. Kalathias showcased his incredible playmaking ability to set up the score. The senior out-muscled a Ursinus midfielder for a 50-50 ball and then fed a beautiful touch to Almekinders in the corner. The sophomore then connected with a centering pass to Zhen, who raced up the middle for the one-touch score.
