Women’s Basketball Bench Takes Over at Muhlenberg, Bandurick Records 1000th Career Point

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team picked up a massive road victory over Muhlenberg College, 57-37, on Wednesday night. The Garnet completed the season sweep against the Mules, while earning their first road victory over Muhlenberg since 2012.

Dana Bandurick headlined the evening with her 1000th career point in a four-point effort for the Garnet. The senior reached the milestone on a layup with 7:52 remaining in the third quarter. 

Swarthmore's bench nearly outscored Muhlenberg's entire team as they contributed 34 points on the evening. Norah Wingfield led the charge with 17 points in 27 minutes off the bench, while Carly Murphy added seven points in a crucial bench role. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore's bench carried the load in the opening quarter as Murphy and Wingfield combined for 13 of the team's 19 points to start the game. Murphy connected from three-point range to give Swarthmore the lead with 5:58 left. Wingfield then entered off the bench with consecutive threes to expand the team's lead to seven points. Moments later, Wingfield added another bucket for her eighth point of the stanza, while Alyssa Hayashi and Bandurick contributed points before the buzzer, 19-13. 

- Murphy continued her hot start with a layup to open the second quarter before Hayashi drained a triple to put Swarthmore ahead by double digits, 24-13. Muhlenberg gained ground with six-unanswered points until Hayashi knocked down another three to end the Mules' run. Muhlenberg then added points in the final couple minutes of play to pull within five points heading into halftime, 27-22.

- Bandurick opened the second-half scoring for Swarthmore with her 1000th career point on a layup with 7:52 remaining. Moments later, Neve Yair and Katelyn Becker each connected from long range to expand their lead to nine points. Muhlenberg countered with four-straight points, but were silenced by an 8-0 Garnet run as they pulled ahead by 13 points. The Garnet then ended the stanza with a 12-point lead after a Muhlenberg free throw, 43-30. 

- Swarthmore took full control of the game with a dominant start to the fourth quarter. Wingfield opened the final stanza with a layup, while Vanessa Amsinger followed with a three ball. Following a Muhlenberg jumper, Wingfield took charge with seven-straight points to help facilitate a 14-5 advantage in the quarter.
