Men’s Swimming Takes Down No. 21 Rowan at Ware Pool

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's swimming team made its case as one of the top teams in the nation with a 136-107 victory over No. 21 Rowan University on Saturday afternoon.

Swarthmore continued its winning ways at Ware Pool with five individual victories and a relay sweep over the Profs. First-year standout Danny Castle led the charge with a pair of first place victories in the 100 and 200 freestyles, while Sam Peterson, Jacob Sherman and Cami Wilson celebrated individual wins for Swarthmore. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of Matvey Ivanov, Ben Wesley, Wilson and Castle touched the wall with a time of 1:31.39. The effort moved the group into sixth all-time on the team's leaderboard. Swarthmore also grabbed third place in the relay event.

- Castle finished two seconds ahead of the nearest Rowan competitor in the 200 freestyle. The first-year grabbed the top position with a time of 1:41.71, which ranks seventh in program history. Castle then secured another victory in the 100 freestyle to headline a pair of top finishes in the event. The first-year touched the wall at 46.48, while Cole Griscavage followed in second at 47.30. 

- Swarthmore grabbed second and third in the 100 backstroke as they fell to Rowan's All-American standout. Joey Lukner placed second with a time of 52.34, while Jacob Sherman followed at 52.98. The Garnet also took fourth and fifth in the event to secure key points. 

- Griscavage nearly overtook Rowan in a tightly-contested 100 breaststroke. Griscavage touched the wall at 57.30 to place second, while Wesley followed with a 58.10 mark. 

- Peterson raced to the top spot in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:53.99. Dylan Ling also grabbed a top-three position in the event with a third place finish at 1:54.84. 

- Wilson nearly took down Rowan's All-American in the 50 freestyle after narrowly finishing in second with a 21.16 effort. Ethan Marotte also grabbed important points for the Garnet with a third place effort at 21.53. 

- Sherman enjoyed a top finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.62. The junior was followed by Lukner, who grabbed the second position with a 1:54.90 effort. Dylan Herink also placed fourth in the event to rack up more Swarthmore points. 

- Finn Conaway and Omar Ebied grabbed second and third in the 200 breaststroke. Conaway finished as the runner-up with a 2:11.38 mark, while Ebied followed at 2:12.75. Will Trone also grabbed the fourth position with a 2:14.19 effort. 

- Theodore Kim finished as the runner-up in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.41. Freeman followed closely behind with a 4:50.08 finish to control third place. 

- Wilson impressed with a victory in the 100 butterfly. The sophomore touched the wall first to energize the crowd with a 50.03 finish to beat out Rowan's top competitor. Wesley also grabbed third in the event with a time of 51.07, while Ling and Will Kilponen placed fourth and fifth, respectively. 

- The Swarthmore 400 freestyle relay of Marotte, Griscavage, Vijay Chhabra and Castle narrowly edged out Rowan to capture the final event of the afternoon. Castle touched the wall just before Rowan at 3:07.24 as the Profs placed fractions of a second behind at 3:07.81.
