Women’s Basketball Returns to Winning Ways Versus Bryn Mawr

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team got back on track with a decisive 69-35 victory over Bryn Mawr College on Tuesday afternoon. The Garnet swept the season series against the Owls for the seventh-straight season and captured their 29th straight win over Bryn Mawr.

With tonight's victory, the Garnet moved to 6-6 in the Centennial Conference and currently sit inside the playoff picture in fifth place. The women will embark on a crucial three-game road swing against Washington College (4-6), Gettysburg College (10-1) and Muhlenberg College (4-7) as they battle for postseason positioning.

Three different scorers reached double figures for Swarthmore as nine different players filled up the stat sheet with points. Alyssa Hayashi paced the Garnet with 14 points, while Dana Bandurick and Carly Murphy followed closely behind with 13 points. After tonight's contest, Bandurick needs just 21 points to reach the 1,000 career point milestone.

After a slow start in the opening five minutes, the Garnet dominated play the rest of the way. Swarthmore did not allow a single point off a turnover to outscore the Owls 33-0 in the category, while winning the turnover battle 12-29.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After falling behind early in the opening stanza, the Garnet got back on track with a Katelyn Becker bucket, which was followed by a Murphy triple to regain the lead for Swarthmore with 3:44 left. Following a Murphy jumper, Vanessa Amsinger connected from long range to provide the Garnet with more breathing as they closed out the quarter with a seven-point advantage, 20-13.

- Swarthmore expanded its lead with a 9-4 run in the opening five minutes of the second quarter. Bandurick led the quarter with four points as seven different Swarthmore players scored in the stanza. Nina Sablan capped off the half with her first collegiate field goal in the final seconds of play to put the Garnet ahead by 14 points, 35-21.

- The Garnet continued to pull away with a lopsided third quarter as they distanced themselves from the Owls with a 17-8 advantage in the stanza. Hayashi got the Garnet started with a pair of layups to open the half as Swarthmore's full-court press created trouble for Bryn Mawr. Swarthmore continued to grow its lead the entire quarter as they entered the final stanza with a 52-29 advantage.

- Swarthmore cruised to victory with a 16-6 advantage in the final quarter. Bandurick took over in the quarter with seven points to close out the victory.
