Women’s Lacrosse Wins Wild OT Thriller at Dickinson, 12-11

CARLISE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team got back on track with a wild 12-11 overtime victory over Dickinson College for their first Centennial Conference victory on Saturday.

Isabela Bloomquist and Sophie Finkelstein were both outstanding in a back-and-forth thriller over the Red Devils. Bloomquist paced the offense with seven points on five goals and two assists, while Finkelstein added four goals. Bloomquist had a go-ahead goal late in the fourth quarter and eventually connected on the game-winner in overtime. Finkelstein also had her share of clutch goals with a pair of game-tying scores in the fourth.

Cassidy Marquis had a multi-goal performance with two goals, while Francesca Richardson added the team's other score to go along with one assist. Emma Holub also stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high four assists.

Helen Stafford held things down on defense with a game-high 11 saves. She was essential in a defensive-heavy second half as she made several crucial saves for Swarthmore.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore got off to a fast start with a goal off the opening draw control. Marquis opened the scoring with an assist from Elizabeth Zack at the 14:14 mark. Moments later, Bloomquist followed with an unassisted score to put the Garnet ahead by a pair. After the Red Devils trimmed their deficit in half, the Garnet ended the opening stanza with four-unanswered scores to take a commanding five-goal lead. Finkelstein and Richardson found the net, while Bloomquist and Marquis added their second scores, 6-1.

- Dickinson flipped the script in the second quarter with three consecutive goals to open the stanza. Bloomquist then scored her third goal to end the Red Devils' streak on an assisted goal from Holub with 6:31 left. Moments later, Dickinson got the goal back as they pulled within two goals. The Devils then added another tally before intermission to make it a one-score game at halftime, 7-6.

- Stafford made a pair of saves midway through the third quarter to keep the Garnet in front. Dickinson eventually broke through with the equalizing goal at the 7:50 mark. Swarthmore had a chance to go back ahead on a free-position shot from Marquis, but had the attempt saved by Dickinson's goalie. Finkelstein eventually came through with the team's first goal of the second half with a go-ahead score at the 5:15 mark. The Garnet held onto a one goal-advantage in a quarter dominated by defense, 8-7.

- Dickinson scored very early in the fourth quarter to tie the game. They then went ahead with their second goal of the opening minute to take their first lead. Swarthmore had a quick answer with a game-tying score from Finkelstein with 12:56 left, but Dickinson responded midway through the quarter to retake the lead. Finkelstein immediately struck again with another equalizing goal to stay level with the Devils. Stafford came up big with a couple pivotal saves to preserve the late tie as the Garnet eventually broke through with a go-ahead tally off a Bloomquist free position with 59 seconds left. The Red Devils answered 20 seconds later with a game-tying free position goal to force overtime, 11-11.
