HAVERFORD, PA. - Playing in their final game of the 2023 season, the Swarthmore women's lacrosse team fell to Haverford College by a score of 16-11 on Saturday, Apr. 29.
 
Offensively, the Garnet were led by sophomores Sophie Finkelstein and Isabela Bloomquist. Both players had four points, with Finkelstein notching four goals and Bloomquist tallying three goals and one assist.
 
On the defensive end, Swarthmore saw a stellar outing from junior Helen Stafford, as the goalkeeper scooped up 10 saves while facing down 34 shots.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Haverford took an early lead, going up 3-0 on the Garnet with 6:54 left in the first quarter.

- Swarthmore got on the board for the first time with four minutes left in the period, notching two quick goals thanks to strikes from Finkelstein and fellow sophomore Elizabeth Zack.

- Wrapping up the first with an action packed final three minutes, Swarthmore answered a Haverford goal with one of their own, keeping the margin at just one. However, a Ford missile with 40 seconds to play sailed past Stafford, extending Haverford's advantage to 5-3 going into the second quarter.

- While Haverford struck first in the second period, the Garnet responded right back, as Finkelstein took full advantage of a free position attempt to shrink Swarthmore's deficit to two at 6-4.

- With both offenses firing on all cylinders, each squad saw multiple scores over the final five minutes of the half, with the Garnet notching two and the Fords three. At the horn, the scoreboard read 9-6 in favor of Haverford.

- The Fords opened up the second half with a 5-0 run, going up 15-6 over Swarthmore.

- Two goals late in the third quarter got a struggling Garnet offense rolling in the second half, as shots from Bloomquist and Zack got Swarthmore within six at 14-8.

- An early 3-0 run from the Garnet to kick off the final period closed the gap to just three at 14-11 with 7:29 left in regulation. However, Swarthmore were unable to find the back of the net again, ultimately falling 16-11.
