CHESTERTOWN, MD. - Shutting out their opponent for the third consecutive match, the No. 20 Swarthmore women's tennis team defeated Washington College by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday, Mar. 28.
Starting off strong in doubles play, the Garnet took all three matches, seizing a 3-0 lead. Not letting up on the gas, Swarthmore barreled through their singles matchups, winning all six in straight sets to claim their dominant 9-0 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Doubles:
- Starting the match off strong in doubles, the Garnet saw easy wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 seeded matches, with the duos of junior
Erica Stutz/first year
Kathleen Shiffer and first year
Lola Diaz/junior
Daniela Padron-Castillo both downing their opponents 8-1.
- Swarthmore's only real test came in the No. 3 seeded match, where the pair of sophomore
Lara Geib/first year
Riya Rao were pushed to the limit. However, the duo ultimately prevailed, coming out on top 8-6 and securing the Garnet's 3-0 lead headed into singles play.
Singles:
- Looking to truly establish their dominance, the Garnet did not let their momentum dissipate heading into their singles contests, with all six matches being decided in straight sets.

Anna Miller (6-4,6-3), sophomore
Ruthie Njagi (6-3,6-4), Stutz (6-2,7-5), Padron-Castillo (6-1,6-3) and Diaz (6-1,6-2) all took home points for the Garnet, assuring Swarthmore's perfect 9-0 victory.
