Men’s Basketball to Host Opening Rounds of NCAA Tournament

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Centennial Conference champion Swarthmore College men's basketball team was selected to host the opening two rounds of the NCAA Championship Tournament on Friday and Saturday, announced on Monday morning. 

Swarthmore will play host to SUNY Delhi, St. John Fisher University, and Whitworth University. The Garnet will host SUNY Delhi in the opening round, while St. John Fisher and Whitworth will battle in the other Friday matchup.

TICKETING
Tickets can be purchased in advance using the following link. Swarthmore students, faculty and staff presenting a current Swarthmore ID will be admitted for FREE. One entry per OneCard for each day. Tickets are also available at the door, CASH ONLY and pending availability. 

*Swarthmore students, faculty, and staff MUST still secure a free online ticket via the ticketing portal provided by selecting the "Swarthmore Student/Faculty/Staff w/ valid OneCard" ticket type.

Per the NCAA, tickets will be available at the following rates (per session):
$15 - General Admission
$10 - Students, Senior Citizens, Children
FREE - Children under two years

PARKING
The most convenient locations are the Fieldhouse, West Fieldhouse Lane, Benjamin West, 101 S Chester Rd, and Septa Commuter lots. There is an additional lot adjacent to the Septa Commuter lot that is also available. All of these lots are located on the campus map. Parking in the Swarthmore Inn lot is prohibited. Violators may be ticketed or towed.



The No. 15 Garnet punched their ticket to the big dance after taking down No. 7 Johns Hopkins University in a stunning road comeback to earn the Centennial Conference crown on Sunday afternoon. Swarthmore trailed the Blue Jays by 13 points at the half before storming back to upset the top-seeded Blue Jays.

Vinny DeAngelo helped bring the Garnet back with 22 of his 26 points in the second half. The junior was crowned the Tournament Most Valuable Player as he capped off an incredible regular season for Swarthmore. DeAngelo is averaging 17.5 points on the season. 

The Garnet have a 24-3 overall record after running through the Centennial Conference with a 16-2 mark. Swarthmore will appear in their sixth-straight NCAA Tournament.

SUNY Delhi heads into the tournament with a 20-8 overall record. The Broncos reached the NCAA Tournament after defeating Farmington in the NAC Championship game, 83-77. Jacob Beach leads the squad in scoring with 16.3 points per game. 

St. John Fisher enters the field with a 21-7 overall record. The Cardinals earned an automatic bid after topping second-seeded Nazareth College in the Empire 8 Championship game. St. John Fisher has been led all season by their dangerous duo of Brendan Trapper and Daniel Cook, who both average 18.3 and 18.2 points, respectively. 

Whitworth University enters the pod with an 18-9 overall record. The Pirates walk into the tournament after beating Whitman College in the NWC Tournament Finals. Whitworth presents a balanced scoring threat with four individuals averaging in double figures. TJ McDermott leads the squad with 13.7 points per game.
