Field Hockey Records Second-Highest GPA in Division-III

GENEVA, NY - The Swarthmore College field hockey team posted the second-highest grade-point average in Division-III as they earned the 2022 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division-III National Academic Team Award. 

The NFHCA National Academic Team Award recognizes programs that earned a team GPA of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester of the current academic year. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) posted the highest team GPA with a mark of 3.86, while Swarthmore came in second with a team-average 3.83. NCAA runners-up Johns Hopkins University came in third with a 3.81 team average.

The Swarthmore field hockey team has garnered several academic accolades this offseason. Grace Twitchell recently earned her third-consecutive NFHCA Scholar of Distinction selection, while Martina Kampel, Sophia Hitchingham, Amanda Roessler and Callie Cho were all first-time recipients of the prestigious recognition. The Garnet also had 13 individuals named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. 

Kampel has highlighted award season for the program - earning several prestigious academic and athletic honors. The senior was named to the NFHCA All-Region Second-team this fall, while also earning PhillySIDA Academic All-Area and Academic All-Centennial nods. 

The Garnet finished with a 9-8 overall record this season and earned their first regional ranking in over a decade.
