Men's Soccer Ties Ursinus On The Road

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Len Yamabe scored the tying goal in the second half and the Swarthmore College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Ursinus College in a Centennial Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

The Garnet posted a 16-10 advantage in shots, 7-6 in shots on goal. Swarthmore also tallied nine corner kicks to just four for the Bears. Eleven of the Garnet's shots came after halftime as they battled back after conceding a penalty kick goal late in the first half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore recorded the first three shots of the contest off a trio of corner kicks but could not get them on frame. Ursinus countered with three corner kicks of its own and Christian Bignotti came up with an early stop to keep it scoreless.

- Play settled after the initial 15 minutes and opportunities were few and far between. However, the Bears drew a foul in the box in the waning minutes of the first half and converted the penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead with 2:04 left on the clock.

- In the second half, Bignotti turned away two early shots to keep it a one-goal deficit. The Garnet then countered with three successive chances, two of which were stopped by the keeper.

- Swarthmore's pressure paid off in the 61st minute. The Garnet won a loose ball at midfield. Stathis Kalathias passed to Yamabe cutting into the box. Yamabe reversed course and turned right to get off a shot around a defender and beat the goalkeeper to the right side of the cage to tie the score at one. It was Yamabe's team-leading third goal of the year.

- Swarthmore got off seven shots over the rest of regulation and Ursinus registered three chances of its own but neither side were able to gain the upper hand.
