Women’s Swimming Rolls Past TCNJ

EWING, NJ - The Swarthmore College women's swimming team captured its 22nd straight dual meet victory with a 196-63 decision over The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. 

The Garnet cruised past the Lions with 11 individual victories from nine different swimmers as they showcased their incredible depth and talent. Quinn Weygandt and Annaliese Chen led the effort with a pair of individual wins to pace the squad.



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of Kaja Arusha, Elle Anthony, Ashley Wong and Genine Collins finished at 1:50.06 to claim the top finish. The Garnet also placed as the runner up in the event.

- Weygandt stood above the competition with an excellent showing in the 1000 freestyle. The sophomore finished at 10:51.91 to outlast her teammate Georgi Mathews, who touched the wall at 11:20.02. The sophomore then tallied another win with a top mark in the 500 freestyle at 5:20.12. Lauren Rohde claimed a runner up finish in the event with a 5:23.67 effort. 

- Chen won her first of two events with a time of 2:11.29 in the 200 butterfly. She was followed by Sophia Ulvestad, who placed as the runner up at 2:14.60. Chen then claimed another victory in the 200 breaststroke at 2:31.39. Cara Dominici followed with a time of 2:32.02 to grab second overall. 

- Ava Craig found herself with another first place finish as she led the charge in the 200 freestyle. The first-year recorded a mark of 1:56.96 to earn a victory for the second-straight week. Kate Hallmark (1:57.49) and Rohde (2:01.75) helped sweep the top-three finishes for Swarthmore. 

- Erin Szuromi finished with the only sub one-minute mark in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.34. Anna Liu (1:00.89) and Wong (1:01.72) followed with second and third place efforts, respectively.

- Sophie Rotival raced to the finish in the 50 freestyle with a 25.46 mark to claim a narrow victory for the Garnet. Collins then followed with another sprint victory in the 100 freestyle at 52.76. The reigning Centennial Swimmer of the Week was followed by Anthony (54.14) and Craig (55.21) to claim all three top spots. 

- Lexi Duffy paced a top-three sweep in the 200 backstroke with a 2:09.55 effort. Szuromi and Sarah Conley followed behind with times of 2:12.12 and 2:17.27, respectively. 

-  Wong led another Swarthmore top-three sweep in the 100 butterfly. The senior finished at 59.04 as she narrowly beat out Duffy, who touched the wall at 59.50. Ainsley Jane Tambling followed shortly behind in third place with a 1:00.53 mark.

- Anthony wrapped up a busy day of winning as she headlined a top-three sweep in the 200 IM. The sophomore touched the wall at 2:13.96 to claim the top finish, while Liu (2:15.25) and Ulvestad (2:17.22) followed behind.
