BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Securing back to back wins for the first time since November, the Swarthmore women's basketball team dominated Bryn Mawr College 62-18 on Tuesday, Jan. 24th.
The Garnet were captained on both offense and defense by sophomore
Alyssa Hayashi, as the guard notched team leading marks of eleven points, four rebounds and seven steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While the Owls were able to keep pace through the first three minutes of play, the Garnet quickly ran away with the first quarter, going on an 11-2 run to close out the period up 15-6.
- The garnet's offensive dominance continued into the second quarter, with buckets from first year
Kaylah Jacques and senior
Colleen Anderson giving the Garnet a 20-6 advantage before the Owls were able to get on the scoreboard. Swarthmore's defense stifled any attack Bryn Mawr attempted to mount, holding the Owls to just one more field goal as the Garnet went into the half riding a 32-10 scoreline.
- A Hayashi layup started off the second half scoring for the Garnet just 33 seconds into the 3rd quarter, followed up by baskets from first years
Anna Hansson and
Caroline Selinger to widen the gap between the squads to 26. While the Owls were able to respond with a three of their own, a triple from first year
Harrison Anderson firmly cemented the Garnet's hold on the quarter, as Swarthmore went into the fourth up 50-16.
- An Owl jump shot opened up scoring in the final period, but that would be the last time they would add to the scoreboard. The Garnet ran away with the quarter, outsourcing the opposition 12-2 and closing out the 62-18 win.
- With the win, the Garnet improve to 6-10, 4-7 in conference play.
